Farewell!

It seems too late to say farewell...sorry for posting so late, I forgot that I also need to say good bye on the main page.I'm truly glad that I decided to join this project in the very beginning of this semester. I believe I made a right decision because I not only learnt a lot but also had fun during the process of discussing. At first, I set myself some goals; I wanted to polish my English, and I also hoped to improve my critical and logical thinking. I think I had achieve those goals by…See More

Good bye and good luck!

Good bye everyone and good luck! When we first started this project, not many students were sure what exactly the assessment was.  I believe now that every one of my members has a pretty good idea of not onlywhat it is but how it works.  I know thatmy personal experience through this project is different from others, but I amsure that one thing that is the same for everyone is that we all will miss thisproject. My only regret is that I lost a chance to be involved more actively inthe discussions…See More

Adios muchachos!

reflecting on this term's project, i have many positive feelings. first off, i want to say that it was a brilliant idea to have this type of project for assessment. for most of the classes i have taken for my certificate, we have done projects and lesson plans of a more hypothetical nature, working with an imagined context. the greatest thing about this project has been knowing that it is a real world project, working with real people, in a real (albeit electronic) context. i feel i can speak…See More

No worries. Trust me, I will be neither bothered nor annoyed. I'm studying to be a teacher so if I were either I would not be a very good teacher. :)

So long everyone! :-(

Through illness and a crazy term, it hast been an honor to work with all of you. Looking back over all of our old posts, I am extremely sad that I couldn't be even more active in out conversations. I was always so intrigued by many of your posts: you all always brought up such interesting points.I think working on a group project like this was invaluable. Seeing everybody's take on things was genuinely awesome. I really believe that we should continue to do projects such as these that…See More

Thanks Taiwan!

This has been a very valuable experience for me. I really enjoyed reading many of the on-line discussions and learning a little about your culture. I really hadn't considered that you would be nervous about working with native English speakers- especially since we are all students.  You did so well posting very interesting discussions. Even though I learned so much in this class about designing assessment tasks, I regret that I wasn't part of Group 2 because I thought your topics were so…See More

Good-Bye

Hi and Good Bye everyone, I can't believe it's already the end of the quarter and time to say good bye.  I haven't directly interacted with you since I am in group 3, but I have really enjoyed reading your postings.  I, as one of the ESL students, am very impressed with how you write and what you write, and I have learned a lot from you.  I wish the best of luck with your studies!

Good Bye Everyone

Thank you for working with me everyone. You have an excellent job. I really appreciated it. This is my first time to communicate with foreign students, but I have a great experience with you. Take yourself, and see you later. See More

Thank you for your consideration, Cory. Things really get in the way so accidentally, and if they are something bad, it really makes people exhausted. Now it's the last month of this semester in Taiwan, which means floods of assignments and…

Good Bye Everyone

Bye everyone, sort of.Thanks everyone for working with us!  I'm in group 4 so I'm not entirely done, but we're close!  I was very impressed with your English.  I remember reading some of your first replies and I thought, "Wow.  Are these really English as a second language speakers?!"  Your many years of practice have definitely paid off  Thanks again!  :)-KevinSee More

Yeah, it would be really cool to meet you IRL (in real life.) Well, as I've said before, there's a good chance of me returning to TW after graduation in a year or so. Do you have any plans to come to the US sometime to study or anything?

Goodbye!

Goodbye, everyone!  Well, not exactly.  I'm in Group 4 so I'll still be working with you for a little bit.  I've really appreciated this opportunity to work with other students, and I have found it to be really enlightening.  I wish I could have had the chance to spend time getting to know all of you!  As it is, I can't wait to read all your letters, and I've been very impressed at the ones that I have read!  I hope this experience has been as enriching for all of you as it has been for me.…See More

Welcome to the NSYSU-PSU Project!

Greetings from Kaohsiung, Taiwan!
Dear PSU students,

It’s great that we have this opportunity to work together and to get to know each other. You must be very curious about who we are and where we are at; probably even more while we are moving on to the second week of the project!

We are from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU), Kaohsiung Taiwan. Our campus is situated in the Mount Chai, where natural creatures such as monkeys, parrots, and birds can be found. Students in our department are all very skillful in hiding their breakfast from the Formosan Macaques (we got 800 in the mountains here!). The school is also very famous for its sunset, as we are very close to the Hsitzu Bay, a gorgeous sandy beach in southern Taiwan.

We have 13 students participating in this project, with 12 NSYSU students and 1 student currently studying in the US. I hope everyone will have a great time working with each other, and I look forward to reading your wonderful discussions!

GREETINGS FROM PORTLAND, OREGON!
Roughly 580,000 people live in Portland, Oregon (not the one in Maine) but there are about 2 million people in the Portland metro area. Portland has several nicknames (City of Roses, Stumptown and Bridgetown) and is a relatively liberal and environmentally friendly city. Portland is known for its weather (a lot of rain), beer and coffee, bikers and Nike, whose headquarters are here.
With about 24,000 students, Portland State University is the largest university in Oregon. It's also the youngest - it was founded in 1946. As an urban university, PSU has a diverse student body.
